Worth the extra dollars for a quality kitchen tool
I wanted a quality food mill to make tomato sauce as I had a bumper crop of heirloom tomatoes this year. Researched a bunch of food mills but always found significant negatives. The worst was when I saw complaints about dark residue coming from the mill and dropping into the food. YUK! I am a mechanical engineer and the only thing I could think of that would cause that would be a poor bushing or bearing on the shaft that either has a lubricant or is trapping food particles. Major YUK! I finally found this food mill. The reviews were good but it was a bit pricey. I have always thought that paying a bit more for better quality is always the best choice. I was not disappointed with this food mill. It is well designed, easy to put together and easy to wash. No places for food to be trapped. No bushing or bearing in the design. All stainless construction. It is solid and operated smoothly. The little spring clip that goes on the bottom to help keep pulp from building up is a great idea and works well. I have thus far processed about 60 lbs of tomatoes and made 22 cups of lovely tomato sauce and 12 cups of Marinara sauce from my garden tomatoes. My process is to roast the tomatoes in the oven on a cookie sheet until they split and then just put them through the food mill. When it seems to stop processing the tomatoes, it means the inside is packed with skins and seeds and I had to stop and pop out the rotating part and give it a good rinse to dislodge the skins and seeds and then pop it back in and keep going. The initial pass would get most of the seeds out. After finishing the first pass on all the tomatoes, I would pour the puree back through for another pass and had virtually no seeds. This worked well for the large red tomatoes but not so much for the grape sized yellow tomatoes. Their seeds were very small and would get through the 2mm holes. No worries, though. You don’t really even notice them in the Marinara. I have a total bumper crop of the yellow tomatoes so I mixed them in with the reds to make Marinara.Anyway, no complaints with this food mill. It costs a bit more but does a great job. It is also well built and should last for years. Well worth the money. I look forward to using it next year for seeding blackberries and raspberries.

Very well made, this food mill will last.
When it comes to items I know will be used excessively, I’m willing to pay a bit more for quality. I looked at other food mills locally but couldn’t find a GEFU food mill to compare, so I took a gamble on ordering this one sight unseen. I’m glad I did. It’s a bit heavier but not so much you’d notice in use. I’ve used this for primarily tomato sauces and juices to can, but will later use it for applesauce and jams without seeds.I wish I’d had this earlier in life as it so much easier and efficient than other methods, and in fact I’m able to process tomatoes so quickly I’ve increased the number I do in a day. It’s very easy to remove skins and seeds when needed by rotating the handle in the opposite direction – something I’ve had to do when processing several gallons of cherry tomatoes for sauces. The first time I used this, I processed over 6 pounds of ‘juicier’ tomatoes in under 5 minutes. It’s been run through the dishwasher multiple times (minus the small scraper that you insert underneath – I am mindful of it as it’s such a small part and wouldn’t want to lose it.) and there isn’t a bit of rust on it – something I sometimes see on cheaper kitchen gadgets that don’t have good SS. And it’s a breeze to put together and take apart, which is a big plus. The knob is nice and big, comfortable in my hand, and I can fit this easily on a small bowl or any of my large industrial-sized bowls – very versatile. I’ve not had any problems with the food mill slipping.I use the 2mm mostly, but to remove every seed, I use the 2 mm first, which has a rough edge and catches the skins so well, then run my sauce (very quickly) through the 1mm (which you have to purchase separately). I think the 3mm disk will be best for applesauce but cannot yet attest to that, and it’s also a matter of preference. The one thing I do not like is the handle can become uncomfortable for ‘older’ hands after a bit of processing. I did what another reviewer mentioned – I slipped a silicone pot handle cover over it and that made holding it much comfier. I strongly recommend this food mill, especially if you intend to process a lot of food, want ease of use, and something that will last.

Je l’ai utilisé pour la purée de pommes de terre et ce moulin à légumes fonctionne très bien. On l’a bien en main et la petite tige à glisser sous la râpe aide à descendre la purée dans la casserole mise en dessous.

Works great. Takes a little getting used to. I use it for mashed potatoes primarily, tomato sauce and cream of different vegetables.

This is a lovely little unit which is quite deep for its size and made short work of processing my batch of plum sauce. I did need to buy an additional disk with 1mm holes to get the smooth texture I wanted. It’s easy to assemble and easy to clean up afterwards. If it has one drawback it would be the small spring that attaches underneath to secure the disk in place is small & light & easy to lose.

I just purchased this for canning this harvest season. So far it’s worked well. The only tricky part was I could not remove the scraper from the underside. My fingers were not strong enough. But after disassembling the top, which is easy, I could also remove the scraper and easily wash everything. It seems like a quality unit.
