Great way to avoid bacteria and microplastics
I use cutting boards all the time, for cutting the sour dough I bake twice a week, for apples I eat multiple times a day, and while preparing food throughout the day. When I was younger, my family had wooden cutting boards, but at some point, people started complaining about how juices could seep into the small cuts that accumulated over time in a wooden cutting board, creating ideal conditions for bacteria to grow.The solution was using plastic cutting boards, and I accumulated lots of these of varying sizes and thicknesses — big, thick ones for cutting lots of items for meal preparation; smaller, thinner ones for cutting small amounts of fruit, etc. Unfortunately, as time passed, the danger of microplastics became more apparent, and while I continued to use my plastic cutting boards, I started to look for another solution.Enter this stainless steel cutting board. The metal is incredibly durable, and easy to clean, as it doesn’t scratch like wood or plastic, so there’s no place for juices to go. And while I am interested to see if regularly cutting on such a hard surface does dull my knives more quickly, I think that is a fair trade for reduced bacteria and microplastics.As you can see from my photos, these boards very thin, making them easy to move around. As metal can get slippery when wet, a plastic mat is included that will hold the boards in place, even when stuff gets messy. They only have one mat, which is large enough for either of the two included cutting boards, but not large enough for both. If slipping is a concern, you can always put a small kitchen towel under the cutting board.While this isn’t a big issue for me, I have to say that these cutting boards look much better than the plastic ones I’m used to using.I’m new to metal cutting boards, and the prices are all over the place. This set is somewhere towards the lower middle of the price range I’ve seen. It seems like a reasonable value, though it does seem like you can find similar looking items for less.

Not truly “stainless” in that sense
These are the thinnest cutting boards I’ve ever had – and I’ve also been curious about this stainless steel cutting board trend. These come with two sizes, large and small, and match very closely in size to other types of cutting boardsFor the most part, you use them same as any other cutting board – put it on a flat surface, and start chopping. You do need to put them on a mat or non-smooth surface to keep them from slipping around. They can also flex a little bit if you try to use them like you would a thick plastic or wood cutting board.Just a reminder: stainless refers to how the steel will not rust. That’s important to know, because if you buy these, see the word “stainless”, and then notice that they don’t come out perfectly shiny clean after washing – that’s why. However, stainless is not supposed to absorb any smells, nor does it have any pores or rough surfaces that could be hiding spots for bacteria.My biggest worry is the impact that this will have on my knives. Other cutting boards get “cut”, which is why a wood or plastic board eventually gets scored to pieces and becomes less useful. On the other hand, harder cutting boards like glass or metal will dull away at your knife blade – which can be easily remediated by sharpening. Either way, remember that chopping is a destructive process – not just to the food, but to the utensils involved as well.

Nice product, bad finishing
The cutting boards seems very nice. It came with a grippy thing to put under them but I didnโt like the idea of having to wash that too after use. Mine seems to do okay so far without it. The small one was finished nicely but the large one had rough edges that I was afraid would snag my clothing or Iโd scratch/cut my finger one. Thatโs why I took it down to 3 stars. Big issue.
